Leadership & Team

Dedicated, passionate leadership carries out the vision and legacy of our late founder, Gwen Elliott.

Since its beginning in 2002, Gwen’s Girls, Inc. has strived to build a continuum of services for at-risk girls in the Pittsburgh region. Guided by the vision and legacy of our late founder, Pittsburgh Police Commander Gwen Elliott, we have responded to what we see as the key issues and struggles that our girls and their families face: poverty, racism, and violence. As overwhelming and elusive as these societal factors may seem, we have been able to work with our girls to help them see themselves within the context of their communities, realize their individual strengths and potential and, in turn, make the choice to become self-sufficient and contributing community members.

This is done through the nurturing relationships of our dedicated staff and volunteers and in conjunction with the wide array of other service providers, individuals, and corporate supporters. By meeting the highest standards of professional practice, Gwen’s Girls recently became accredited by the Council on Accreditation. We are very proud of this achievement. We are looking forward to sharing our knowledge about girls with others in our region.
